I've been in business since 2006. That would make it 13 years this 2019 and I can't tell you how many times in all these years that I have networked with various groups, people look at me and say "how nice, you must have fun with your crafting' or they visit my studio location and say 'Oh wow, what a great craft room!"
Hmmm, all I can say is that yes I LOVE what a I do but it's by far a hobby. I attend the National Gift Basket Convention just about every year, sign up for various industry workshops and am always attending and registering for local marketing, social media and many other classes that will benefit from learning to always keep up to date with my business.
So what is a Gift Basket Business? Mine if both an array of gift baskets for occasions as well as corporate gifting for various programs. The Gift Baskets are for Birthdays, Anniversaries, Sympathy, New Baby, Thank You, Sorry, Thinking of You, Congratulations, New Home, and many more. They can be a filled with gourmet treats, wine and cheese, champagne and fruit, fruit and cheese, baby items, pet snacks and toys, mugs with tea or coffee and the list can go on. I even wrap people's items in baskets or containers to make them more appealing as a gift.
So I offer wrapping services, customized printed ribbon, logo ribbon, baskets or gifts strictly showing only the client's business name with accents of items on the color of the business logo and much more.
An alternative to a gift card is our gifting program for a new hire, employee birthday or employee work anniversary. The object it to cater to the business so that a design is shown within the budget allowed for each type of gift. How does it work? Once we've discussed the budget parameters for the business and what type of items will be included in the design, the company sends us a list of their employees and the dates in which they'll receive the birthday, anniversary or new hire gift. We contact a week prior as a reminder and at the gift is delivered on the requested date as well as paid for. How easy is that?
What's a Hobby? As per Wikipedia's description it's a regular activity done for enjoyment, typically during one's leisure time. What do I do? I work between 40-50 hours a week, making sure all my orders are in check, all gifts are being delivered correctly and on time and obtaining help from my staff when most needed. Am actively coming up with new designs and ways to implement gifts that will 'wow' your recipients as well as keep you top of mind etc.
Gift Baskets and Corporate Gifting is my Life and my Business, and even though I enjoy it throughly it is treated like any other business which is taken seriously.
There you go, It's NOT a Hobby.....
